Celebrate connection, calm companionship, and confident movement at our Legendary Sweetheart Pack Walk on February 1st! We’ll meet up on the Floodwall and enjoy a structured, on-the-move training walk designed to strengthen focus, neutrality, and teamwork between you and your dog.

This pack walk is legendary for a reason—we’ll stop at Legends Brewery before turning back, offering an optional real-world socialization experience for dogs who are ready. The return walk lets teams reset, decompress, and finish strong with calm, confident pack manners.

What we’ll work on:

• Calm, neutral walking around other dogs

• Engagement and handler awareness in busy environments

• Confidence-building through structured movement

• Choice-based social exposure (no pressure—dog-first always)

Flea & Tick Treatment: What to Know Before You Use It

Friday, 6:00 – 7:30 PM (in person at 2SpeakDog + via Zoom)

Parasites like fleas and ticks are more than just a nuisance — they can carry diseases, irritate the skin, and disrupt your dog’s health. But giving your dog a flea/tick treatment isn’t just “pick the strongest one” — there are trade-offs, safety considerations, and holistic factors to weigh. In this session, we’ll dig into what the research says, what uncertainties remain, and how to make decisions that align with your dog’s individual health and immune system.

What We’ll Discuss

• Mechanism & classes of flea/tick products: how they work (topicals, oral, collars, etc.) and what “isoxazoline” compounds are.

• Safety, side effects & risk profiles: what adverse events have been documented (especially for newer compounds) — including what the FDA has published about isoxazoline-associated risks.

• Real-world data & clinical studies: summaries and issues from veterinary literature (e.g. recent papers in Veterinary Medicine and Science and Veterinary Record) about efficacy vs. safety tradeoffs.

• Natural, integrative, and adjunctive approaches: how nutrition, skin health, immune support, grooming, and environmental control factor into a holistic parasite-prevention plan.

• Decision framework & tailoring to your dog: how to weigh age, breed, health status, exposure risk, and owner preferences when choosing or rotating products.

• Open Q&A & experience-sharing: bring your questions, personal cases, or concerns (e.g. past reactions, co-medications) so we can brainstorm together.

Why This Matters

Some new flea/tick drugs have shown excellent efficacy, but they also carry reported side effects in certain dogs. (See what the FDA has to say about potential adverse events with isoxazoline agents.

You’ll want to balance risk vs. benefit — not simply “strongest = best.” The veterinary literature continues to evolve on this question (for example, in Veterinary Medicine and Science and Veterinary Record) and there is no one-size-fits-all answer.

By combining evidence, caution, and holistic support (nutrition, skin/coat care, immunity, environmental practices), we can aim for safer, smarter parasite control.

Join us for a structured PACk Walk on the breathtaking Belle Isle in the heart of Richmond, Virginia! This unique island offers a perfect mix of scenic beauty and real-world training opportunities—with views of the James River, a walk across the suspension footbridge, rocky riverbanks, and wooded trails.

This on-the-go training session is designed to help your dog stay calm around other dogs, remain focused on you in distracting environments, and build confidence while exploring new spaces. You’ll learn the difference between structured socialization and recreational socializing, as we guide you through techniques to support your dog’s behavioral growth.

Whether you’re crossing the bridge, walking riverside, or hiking the trails, this Pack Walk is about more than just exercise—it’s about connection, advocacy, and teaching your pup how to navigate the world calmly and confidently.

Take Your Walks to the Next Level!

Level I taught you the essentials—helping your dog learn proper positioning and teaching you how to guide them without relying on the leash. Now it’s time to sharpen those skills in Level II!

In this advanced session, we’ll focus on honing your connection with a shorter leash, helping you fine-tune your handling skills while keeping your pup tuned into you. We’ll work on maintaining calm focus, navigating more challenging distractions, and making the leash feel like just a safety line—not a steering wheel. This is where structured walking truly starts to feel effortless, natural, and connected.

Level II: June 7

This workshop offers puppies aged 10 weeks to 5 months of all sizes, the chance to participate in supervised off-leash play within a structured and secure environment. The playgroup focuses on understanding appropriate puppy interactions, calming escalated or fearful behaviors, and guiding interruptions and redirection during play sessions. Scheduled breaks will include discussions on various puppy-related training topics.

To participate in class, 2SD requires proof of at least two rounds of the following vaccinations: distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, and parainfluenza (typically reflected in records as 'DHPP'), as well as bordetella. Proof of rabies vaccination is required for puppies 16 weeks and older.
