Ms. Kasey’s Birthday Pack-walk!

There really isn’t much I’d rather do for my birthday than spend it with my 2SD family, doing one of my favorite things, a pack walk! And since it’s my birthday, I’m breaking my usual rule and bringing one of my own dogs along to join in the fun.

We’ll meet at Island Shrimp Co., where there is plenty of parking in and around the surrounding area. From there, we’ll head out on the Virginia Capital Trail toward Shiplock Park, spend a little time there, and then make our way back.

THE PLAN

We’ll start our pack walk at 6:00 PM.

At 7:15 PM, Island Shrimp Co. has generously made room for us to take over the patio! That should give us plenty of time for our walk before coming back to relax, grab some food and drinks, and—of course—practice a little real-world chilling out with our dogs.

Because apparently even on my birthday I can’t completely stop being a dog trainer.

THERE ARE LOTS OF WAYS TO JOIN US!

If sitting on a restaurant patio is just a little too much for your dog right now, please still come for the pack walk. There is absolutely no pressure to stay afterward. The walk itself is a wonderful opportunity for your dog to be part of the group and practice being around other dogs and people without having to interact with them.

And if you’d rather skip the walk and just meet us on the patio at 7:15—without a dog—you are absolutely welcome to do that too! This is as much about spending time with our 2SD humans as it is our dogs.

If you are staying for the patio portion with your dog, think ahead about what will help them settle. Bring something appropriate to chew or keep busy, like a Benebone or No-Hide, and if your dog is comfortable settling on a mat, bring that too.

And definitely bring plenty of water for both you and your dog, especially if it’s warm.

More than anything, I’m just really looking forward to celebrating with the people and dogs who have become such an important part of the 2SpeakDog family.

Come for the walk. Come for the patio. Come for both. Bring your dog—or don’t!

Pack walks are structured group outings where dogs practice calm, neutral behavior while walking together. Unlike dog park play, the focus is on engagement with their handler, leash manners, confidence-building, and learning to coexist peacefully around distractions.

So grab a 4 ft leash, water and a water bowl, treats, and any gear you and your pup may need, and come celebrate with us for a special birthday evening full of adventure, learning, and good company!

Please note: We strongly encourage attendance at our Walking Workshop prior to joining a Pack Walk, though it is not required.

This interactive 1.5-hour workshop helps your pup develop calmer, more appropriate social skills when greeting both people and other dogs. Through practical exercises using impulse control, body language and leash handling, you’ll learn how to create thoughtful greetings instead of rushed or overly excited interactions.

We’ll also explore leash-handling techniques, how to read dog and human body language, and how to recognize when your dog needs more space. You’ll practice helping your pup de-escalate, disengage, and return to a calmer state—building confidence, communication, and better social choices along the way. All while letting your dog know that YOU GOT IT, THEY DON’T HAVE TO! 😊

2SD Mother’s Day Pack Walk

There’s no better Mother’s Day gift than quality time with your dog. Join 2SpeakDog for a special Mother’s Day Sunset Pack Walk beginning at Chimborazo Park and walking through historic Church Hill to the beautiful sunset overlooks of Libby Hill Park.

This structured community walk is designed for dogs of all personalities and experience levels. Our focus is on calm walking, confidence building, engagement with handlers, and practicing successful real-world social experiences in a supportive environment.

This is not a dog meetup or free-for-all playgroup.

This structured community walk is designed to create calm, connected experiences for both dogs and humans. Whether your dog is outgoing, easily distracted, still building confidence, or simply benefits from guided social exposure, these walks help dogs practice moving through the world in a more thoughtful and balanced way.

Our focus is not on dogs interacting with one another, but on creating a calm group environment where dogs can learn to walk successfully alongside other dogs and people while staying connected to their handlers. The goal is confidence, engagement, neutrality, and relationship building, all while enjoying one of Richmond’s most beautiful sunset views.

Pack Walk Requirements

• Standard 4-foot leash required

• One dog per handler

• No retractable leashes

• Prefer no adverse tools, such as prong collars, or E collars

• Vaccine records and client information must be on file prior to attending

Come enjoy a beautiful Richmond sunset, connect with your dog, and celebrate Mother’s Day together, one step at a time.

While not required, we strongly encourage completing Walking Workshop Levels I and II prior to participating in a Pack Walk.

My Puppy is Growing up!

This workshop provides puppies aged 5 to 12 months an opportunity to play off-leash in a secure, supervised setting. The playgroup includes training on calming your puppy after energetic play, identifying appropriate puppy interactions, and techniques for interrupting and redirecting play when necessary. Scheduled breaks will feature discussions on various puppy training topics.

Please Note: If your puppy is reactive toward other dogs, please contact us to ensure they are a suitable fit for this workshop

PUPPIES, PUPPIES, PUPPIES

This workshop offers puppies aged 10 weeks to 5 months of all sizes OR for this workshop, puppies under a year that are also 15 Lbs or less, the chance to participate in supervised off-leash play within a structured and secure environment. The playgroup focuses on understanding appropriate puppy interactions, calming escalated or fearful behaviors, and guiding interruptions and redirection during play sessions. Scheduled breaks will include discussions on various puppy-related training topics.

To participate in class, 2SD requires proof of at least two rounds of the following vaccinations: distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, and parainfluenza (typically reflected in records as 'DHPP'), as well as bordetella. Proof of rabies vaccination is required for puppies 16 weeks and older.

Where Did the Bunny Go? 🐰 Sunset Pack Walk

The bunny’s gone… but the distractions aren’t. 😉

Join us for a themed 2SpeakDog Structured Pack Walk designed to help your dog stay calm, focused, and connected to you—even when the environment says otherwise.

This isn’t your average “social” walk. This is intentional, structured movement where dogs learn to exist around other dogs, people, and real-world distractions without needing to engage with them.

What We’re Working On:

• Calm behavior around other dogs (no meet-and-greets)

• Loose leash walking in a group setting

• Neutrality to movement and environmental distractions

• Handler focus and engagement

• Practicing “settle” energy on the move

Why This Matters:

After the excitement of holidays (and yes… rogue bunnies 🐰), dogs often struggle with overstimulation and impulsive reactions. This walk helps them learn how to process the world without reacting to everything in it.

Because real life doesn’t remove distractions… it teaches dogs how to move through them.

What to Expect:

• Structured start and clear expectations before we move

• Guided walking with coaching throughout

• Strategic stops to practice focus, positioning, and calm behavior

• Real-time feedback to help you read and support your dog

Important Notes:

• This is not a free-for-all social event

• Dogs will remain on leash at all times

• Space and boundaries between dogs are required and respected

When a bike goes by… does your dog lose their mind?

In this class, we’ll help your dog learn how to stay calm and focused around real-world distractions like bikes, scooters, wheelchairs, and other things on wheels. Instead of reacting to every movement, your dog will build the skills needed to ignore the commotion, make better choices, and check in with you. Through structured training exercises and controlled exposure, we’ll teach dogs how to keep their cool when the world starts rolling by.

Once you’ve graduated Intermediate I, you’re officially part of the 2SpeakDog Alumni Crew and we’d love to keep teaching with you! Our Alumni Class is designed for teams who want to stay sharp, keep practicing, and enjoy new adventures together.

Celebrate the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day with your pup on our festive Shamrock Pack Walk! This on-the-go workshop is designed to help your dog learn how to stay calm around other dogs, remain focused on you, and navigate real-world distractions with confidence.

As we stroll through local parks and dog-friendly areas, you’ll learn the difference between structured socialization and recreational dog interactions. Our trainers will guide you in helping your pup practice polite pack walk behavior while strengthening your communication and teamwork.
